Mark your calendars now for the Charitable Irish Society’s 280th Annual St. Patrick Day Dinner on March 17, 2017 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston.  Many of the Charitable Irish Society's events have been held at this venue, and we look forward to returning there again this year.

Our featured speaker, Christine Kinealy is an English born historian, author, activist and founding director of Ireland’s Great Hunger Institute at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. She has written extensively about the Great Irish Famine, An Gorta Mor, over her career and has received numerous awards for her scholarly writing. Her early works include This Great Calamity: The Irish Famine, 1845-52 (1994) and A Death Dealing Famine: The Great Hunger in Ireland(1997).  Her more recent work includes Charity and the Great Hunger in Ireland: The Kindness of Strangers (2013). She also co-authored, The Bad Times: An Drochshaol (2016), a graphic novel on the tale of the Great Hunger written from the viewpoint of three teenagers and their dog, Cú.
